In 2019 I spent 12 hours in King Spa in Niles Illinois. I brought my MIDI keyboard and recorded theme music for each of the unique sauna rooms. We FaceTime’d my dad while he was at a Buca Di Beppo. It was his last birthday on Planet Earth.

That FaceTime call was the last time I saw my Dad full of life before hospice. All of his children together (me virtually) eating pasta (me bibimbap). He was so happy at that Buca Di Beppo. My Dad’s favorite collection of music was Holst’s “The Planets,” and through him I was introduced to the idea of a ‘suite.’ The Planets inspired me to write a weird suite about a Korean Spa in a strip mall. I think it’s exactly the type of weird my Dad would’ve loved. I feel his joy in each soundwave peak and trough. I think you will too.
